Brownfields Assessment
In October 2018, the Flint Hills Regional Council (FHRC) received a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to conduct Brownfields Assessments in the FHRC area. A coalition made up of Geary, Riley, Morris and Lyon Counties as well as the Cities of Junction City and Manhattan was formed. Forty percent of the $600,000, three year grant will be used in coalition areas, while the rest can be used in both coalition areas and other areas served by FHRC. The grant will cover 100 percent of 26 phase-1 assessments; 16 phase-2 assessments; Asbestos, lead-based paint, and hazardous building materials surveys for up to six sites; Response Action Plans for up to six sites; Area-wide reuse plans for two brownfield impacted areas or neighborhoods. FHRC hopes to start the process of identify and prioritizing sites in the region and conducting public outreach meetings in early 2019.

Flint Hills MPO
The FHMPO is the designated entity to provide regional transportation planning and programming services for the safe and efficient movement of people and goods throughout the FHMPO planning area. Special emphasis is placed on providing equal access to a variety of transportation mode choices (transit, bicycling, walking, automobile, carpool, etc.) and ensuring effective public involvement throughout the planning process.

Fort Riley Joint Land Use Study
The Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) is the result of a partnership consisting of hard work and coordination among a team of dedicated stakeholders, community leaders, residents, and Fort Riley military personnel; seeking to identify opportunities for their community and the military to continue to work together to ensure the mission of Fort Riley. The JLUS was funded by the Department of Defense (DoD) Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA) and administered by the Flint Hills Regional Council (FHRC). This Joint Land Use Study focuses on the areas surrounding Fort Riley including portions of the counties of Clay, Geary Pottawatomie, and Riley, and the cities of Grandview Plaza, Junction City, Manhattan, Milford, Ogden, Riley, and Wakefield, which sit within the broader Flint Hills Region, approximately 65 miles west of Topeka. The area is noted for its scenic prairie landscape, recreation opportunities, ranching, agriculture, and education and research associated with Kansas State University.

Region Reimagined
The Region Reimagined Initiative is a tri-county community and economic development planning and implementation effort to build a sustainable path to regional growth and prosperity. Community groups from Geary, Pottawatomie and Riley counties are forming to develop and implement regional strategies focused on Talent Attraction & Retention, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Quality of Place, Built Environment and Advocacy. The Region Reimagined Initiative is focused on working towards common goals, resolving mutual challenges and taking advantage of aligned opportunities to overcome barriers and leverage resources throughout the region.
